21/11/2017 The Baltic states

Estonia

A country I have never really thought about before, but beautiful and full of ruins.

We found ourselves stopping at well preserved ruins by the road but entry was free and you had the run of the place.

A very cool border crossing, I felt I should have been on a horse as it was between 2 castles.

Narva castle

Tallinn

Paadise monastery

Ungru manor house

Haapsalu airfield (old soviet interceptor base)

Haapsalu fairytale castle

Latvia

More castles, palaces and a busy capital. Even busier due to Latvia independence day.

A very busy Riga

Cesis castle

Sigulda castle

Taraidas castle

Lithuania

A very short visit but fruitful. Kind of wish we spent more time in Vilnius with its beautiful architecture, churches and the self proclaimed Uzipis Republic.

Vilnius

The hill of crosses made of over 200,000 crosses

Traika castle (they built a castle from the ruins)

And so we leave the Baltic states with 1150 miles to Calais. The next post may just be our last….
